Victory! Clemson’s Pitching Sensation Michael Sharman Shuts Down Army in Dominant 10-0 Blowout

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson Tigers showcased their dominance in college baseball with a commanding 10-0 victory over Army West Point in the first game of a doubleheader at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday. With this win, the Tigers improved their record to 2-0, establishing a two-game lead in the series against the Black Knights, who now stand at 0-2.

Senior left-hander Michael Sharman starred on the mound in his debut, delivering a masterful performance over six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. The standout display included a remarkable streak where Sharman retired the first 17 batters he faced, finishing the outing with no walks and eight strikeouts while throwing 72 pitches, 55 of which were strikes.

Army’s first opportunity to reach base came in the sixth inning thanks to a two-out error, followed by a bloop single from the Black Knights. Unfortunately for Army, starting pitcher Robbie Penswick was charged with the loss after yielding five runs on eight hits across three innings of work.

Clemson wasted no time finding its rhythm, striking first in the opening inning when Nate Savoie delivered a run-scoring single. The Tigers doubled their advantage in the second inning, driven by an RBI groundout from Bryce Clavon and a two-out single from Jarren Purify, extending their lead to 3-0.

The momentum continued as Savoie led off the third with his inaugural homer as a Tiger, while Jack Crighton contributed with a two-out double that added to the scoring. In the fourth, Ty Dalley registered his first hit as a Tiger with another two-out, run-scoring single, further cementing Clemson’s dominance.

The sixth inning saw Clavon hit his first home run of the season, contributing to the Tigers’ impressive tally of runs and ensuring that every starter in the lineup secured at least one hit, highlighting the team’s collective effort at the plate.

Clemson displayed a potent offensive arsenal, compiling a total of 17 hits throughout the game while stifling Army’s attempts to generate any significant offensive traction.

The second game of the doubleheader is set to commence around 3:05 p.m., with fans eager to see if the Tigers can maintain their winning streak against the Black Knights.
