Redmond, Washington – Microsoft has begun testing a new Windows 11 Release Preview build that showcases upcoming features anticipated to roll out in the coming weeks. This iteration primarily focuses on enhancing user experience with an array of quality-of-life improvements, highlighted by updates to the Taskbar and the introduction of new emojis.
Part of Microsoft’s “Continuous Innovation” strategy, Windows 11 receives monthly updates aimed at integrating new features as they are ready, rather than waiting for a major annual update. Among the notable changes, users will find the 16.0 emoji set, which introduces new options including a fingerprint, a harp, and a shovel. These emojis can be accessed via the Emoji panel using the keyboard shortcut Win + .
The Taskbar also sees significant upgrades in this release. A built-in network speed test option will be available by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray, facilitating easier diagnostics of internet connectivity. Additionally, Sysmon, a system monitoring tool, is now integrated into Windows, allowing users to track system events to enhance security.
Further improvements include the first sign-in restore functionality in Windows Backup, which streamlines the setup process for various devices. Users will find that their preferences and Microsoft Store applications will be automatically restored during initial sign-in on compatible devices, making transitions smoother during upgrades or migrations.
Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) has also been enhanced, now activating by default for Windows Professional devices that aren’t part of a company domain. This ensures that users receive essential recovery features without requiring additional enterprise setup.
In an effort to bolster user accessibility, Microsoft has revamped the account management interface, making it easier for users to navigate their benefits directly from the Start Menu. Such adjustments reflect a broader commitment to enhancing the user experience across all aspects of Windows 11.
Additional updates to camera controls allow users to adjust pan and tilt settings for certain compatible models, while the redesigned Widgets app now provides a full-page experience. Users can also set .webp image files as their desktop backgrounds, enhancing personalization options within Windows 11.
Performance optimizations have been implemented across various functionalities, including improved response times in Windows Update Settings and enhancements to the print service to support high-volume printing without lag. Moreover, the File Explorer now includes new features and fixes aimed at improving user navigation.
All these updates are currently accessible to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel, with a full rollout targeted for the general public, commencing with a non-preview security update expected later this month.
