Young Golfer Shoots Historic 59 at Travelers Championship: First Sub-60 Round on PGA Tour in 4 Years!

CROMWELL, Conn. – Cameron Young achieved a remarkable feat in golf by shooting a 59 at the Travelers Championship, becoming the first golfer in nearly four years to card a sub-60 round on the PGA Tour. His performance included two eagles, one from 142 yards out with a wedge and the other by driving the 280-yard 15th hole to within 4 feet.

This historic round marked the 13th sub-60 round since Al Geiberger achieved this milestone in 1977. Young’s outstanding performance was a pleasant surprise to him, as he stated, “I can’t say I was expecting it. I’ve been playing better than the results have shown. Waking up this morning, I wasn’t really thinking I’m going to be 5 under through four. It was a lot of fun to do.”

Despite his impressive round, Young did not secure the course record at the TPC River Highlands, as Jim Furyk’s 58 in 2016 remains the lowest round in PGA Tour history. Young benefited from favorable conditions due to the soggy course, enabling him to lift, clean, and place his golf ball in the short grass.

Although Young had the opportunity to go even lower, with chances to break Furyk’s record, he settled for a par on the final hole. Nonetheless, his final score of 13-under par tied him with Tom Kim, who watched part of Young’s round on a video screen while preparing for his own third round.

Young’s remarkable accomplishment adds to the list of memorable rounds in golf this year, with several rounds at 59 or lower across various tours worldwide. His stellar performance not only reflects his skill but also serves as a testament to the level of competition in the sport.
