Additionally, the team is set to bring on board former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley as an assistant head coach, adding depth to their coaching lineup.
At the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, 49ers general manager John Lynch emphasized the importance of continuity in their defensive approach. Lynch mentioned that the team was not in a rush to hire a new coordinator, highlighting their commitment to maintaining the defensive scheme they have implemented over the past seven years.
Nick Sorensen, who has been with the Niners since 2022, will step into the role of defensive coordinator for the first time in his coaching career. Before joining the 49ers, Sorensen held coaching positions with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Seattle Seahawks, gaining valuable experience in special teams and secondary coaching.
