A 23-year-old woman is dead after a multi-state chase and two gunfights with police

WILMINGTON, DE – A high-stakes police chase spanning two states, featuring two gunfights and multiple crashes, culminated in the death of the 23-year-old female suspect, according to officials. The pursuit initiated by the Wilmington police began on Tuesday just before midday at a residence in Delaware. The authorities were there to apprehend the woman based on an arrest warrant issued in connection to a shooting incident in December 2023.

The woman, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, evaded arrest by escaping in a vehicle. She reportedly rammed into several police cars before speeding off along the I-95 northbound towards Pennsylvania, with Wilmington officers and Delaware state police troopers hot on her trail.

Upon entering Pennsylvania, the suspect lost control of her vehicle, resulting in a crash. She allegedly opened fire on the officers, prompting two troopers to retaliate. It remains unclear if any of the shots fired by the officers hit the woman at this juncture.

The suspect then hijacked another vehicle and drove to Chester, Pennsylvania, where she crashed into a building. She subsequently entered a nearby residence, where she encountered a mother and her baby before commandeering another car in another attempt to escape.

However, her escape was thwarted when several officers, including three from Wilmington, five Delaware state troopers, and officers from Trainer and Chester in Pennsylvania, fired at her vehicle. The woman eventually succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

The name of the woman is being withheld until her family is notified. A Wilmington officer sustained minor injuries during the pursuit and received treatment at a local hospital. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation, as per standard procedure. The names of the officers involved have not been released.
