“Absurd” Sex Scenes: Kate Winslet Shares Hilarious Stories From Filming Political Satire Show

London, United Kingdom – Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet recently shared her experience filming provocative sex scenes for the new political satire miniseries “The Regime.” In the HBO show, Winslet portrays Chancellor Elena Vernham, an authoritarian leader of a fictitious European country. As the tyrannical regime begins to crumble, Elena becomes paranoid and forms a twisted love affair with disgraced soldier Herbert Zubak, played by Matthias Schoenaerts.

Winslet described the raunchy sex scenes with Schoenaerts as “absurd” and “so much fun to film” during a recent interview with The Times. The actress highlighted a moment during filming when the cinematographer and make-up artist had to leave the set because they were laughing too hard.

The actress emphasized that the show’s satire made the scenes nonsensical and absurd, leading to laughter on set. She also mentioned that intimate love scenes occasionally turned volatile, such as a scene where her character screams “No biting” at her on-screen lover.

Despite the presence of intimacy coordinators on set, Winslet explained that their guidance was rarely needed as she and Schoenaerts had built a strong bond from working together in the past. Schoenaerts expressed his commitment to intense scenes by stating his approach to unsettle fellow actors and create a sense of fear.

Winslet’s previous television role was in the acclaimed HBO crime drama “Mare of Easttown” in 2017. She welcomed the opportunity to delve into comedy after a series of serious projects, describing the experience on “The Regime” as a breath of fresh air with plenty of room for improvisation and fun.

The British actress also expressed her joy in portraying a complex female lead in the series, noting the evolving landscape of female-driven narratives in the entertainment industry. She appreciated the exploration of vulnerability alongside strength in her character.

Winslet reflected on her own celebrity status and how it doesn’t align with Elena’s experience of being surrounded by sycophantic individuals. The actress mentioned her discomfort with people wanting to please her, emphasizing her independence and preference for doing things her way.

“The Regime” is currently airing on HBO and available for streaming on MAX. With Winslet’s captivating portrayal and insights into filming the series, viewers are in for a compelling and entertaining experience.
