Paris, France – Legendary French actor Gérard Depardieu is set to face trial on charges of sexual assault, according to prosecutors in Paris. The 75-year-old actor was reportedly questioned by authorities in relation to allegations made by women who worked with Depardieu on film sets in 2014 and 2021.
Following his interrogation, Depardieu was released from custody on the same day, with his lawyer maintaining his innocence. However, prosecutors announced that Depardieu is scheduled to appear in court in October for alleged assaults that took place in September 2021 during the filming of the movie “Les volets verts” (The Green Shutters).
One of the victims involved in the incident claimed that the assault occurred on the set of the film, which was released the following year. Her lawyer recounted the harrowing experience where Depardieu allegedly trapped her between his legs, groped her body, and left her feeling powerless to escape.
This is not the first time Depardieu has faced accusations of sexual misconduct. In 2020, he was charged with the rape of actor Charlotte Arnould, with whom the incident reportedly occurred in 2018 when she was 22 years old. The prosecutor’s office revealed that Depardieu is also under investigation for the offenses of rape and sexual assault allegedly committed in August 2018 against Arnould.
Furthermore, the actor has been accused by more than a dozen women of sexual assault. Despite the mounting allegations, Depardieu has consistently denied any wrongdoing and insisted that all relationships he engaged in were consensual. In a public statement made last year, he vehemently declared, “Never, ever have I abused a woman.”
Depardieu, an Oscar-nominated actor, has built a distinguished career in both French and international cinema, appearing in over 200 films. His upcoming trial is sure to draw significant attention as the legal proceedings unfold and the accusations against him are examined in court.
