The theater chain’s franchise partner and its affiliates cited financial difficulties, with six franchised locations filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The closed North Texas locations include those in Las Colinas, Richardson, Lake Highlands, Dallas, and Denton. Prior to the closure, efforts were made to inform all 600-plus employees about the situation. According to a press release, the first quarter of 2024 was the worst-performing quarter in movie-going history, with the industry facing significant economic challenges. Alamo Drafthouse, known for its restaurant-in-theater concept, themed parties, and unique menu offerings, has locations across Texas in cities like Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, and San Antonio.
