An 18-year-old was killed and a bystander injured in a corner store shooting

PHILADELPHIA, PA – An 18-year-old was fatally shot and a bystander injured in a double shooting near a corner store in North Philadelphia, sparking a homicide investigation.

The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of North Foulkrod and Summerdale Avenue. According to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, the crime scene revealed at least 31 spent shell casings, indicating a targeted attack on the young victim.

The gunmen, who arrived in a dark-colored SUV, ambushed the teenager and fired multiple shots at close range. The victim was rushed to Einstein Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Inspector Pace confirmed that the shooters had specifically targeted the victim.

A 64-year-old man walking nearby was struck in the arm by a stray bullet and was also taken to Einstein Hospital. Authorities reported that he is expected to recover.

A witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted driving through the intersection moments before the shooting. He initially thought a rock had hit his car, only to discover a bullet hole upon returning home. Realizing the severity of the situation, he returned to the scene to inform the police.

The gunmen managed to flee the scene, and police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area, including a convenience store that closed early due to the shooting. The incident has left the community shaken, with residents expressing concerns about the increasing violence.
