New York, NY – Renowned journalist and creator of “The MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour,” Robert MacNeil, passed away at the age of 93 due to natural causes at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. His daughter, Alison MacNeil, confirmed his death.
MacNeil rose to fame for his coverage of the Senate Watergate hearings on PBS before launching the “Robert MacNeil Report” with Jim Lehrer in 1975. The program evolved into the “MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour” an hour-long show in 1983, becoming the first evening news broadcast of its kind and earning numerous Emmy and Peabody awards. The show continues today with Geoff Bennett and Amna Nawaz as anchors.
