Scottsdale, Arizona – The Coyotes hockey team in Arizona has announced plans to acquire 110 acres of state-owned land in Phoenix to develop a groundbreaking sports, lifestyle, and entertainment district. The project aims to be the first privately funded sports arena and entertainment district in Arizona’s history, without relying on taxpayer funding.
The proposed development includes a state-of-the-art sports arena with 17,000 fixed seats for NHL games, along with capacity for 1,500 additional temporary seats for non-hockey events. In addition to the arena, plans include a practice facility, live music theater, retail space, and a watch party plaza with a large screen for viewing events. The district will also feature luxury residential units, office space, retail shops, dining options, a farmer’s market, dog park, parking structures, and gathering spaces.
Coyotes Chairman & Governor Alex Meruelo expressed dedication to building an entertainment district that will not burden taxpayers. The development is expected to generate significant revenue for local education, with the potential to create over 10,800 permanent jobs and attract billions in new spending over the next 30 years. The project is also anticipated to deliver substantial tax revenues for Phoenix and Maricopa County.
