Peoria police responded to a distress call made by 33-year-old Zacchary Delane Sumrall, who confessed to shooting and killing his parents. Upon arriving at the residence on Rock Springs Drive, law enforcement discovered Sumrall’s mother and stepfather deceased inside the home. A Glock handgun was also found at the scene, according to court documents.

During an interview with detectives, Sumrall revealed that the argument with his parents had revolved around financial matters. He claimed that his parents were upset because he was not contributing to the household expenses. The situation escalated when Sumrall became angry and told his mother, “You’re dead to me.” His stepfather attempted to defuse the situation and urged Sumrall to apologize, but his mother insisted that she only wanted him to move out. It was at this point that Sumrall retrieved a gun from his bedroom.

Sumrall admitted to shooting his stepfather multiple times after he followed him downstairs and requested the weapon. He then rushed back upstairs and shot his mother several times. The suspect also disclosed that he suffers from mental health issues and had been taking medication, which he believed was effective until the tragic incident occurred. As a result, Sumrall now faces two counts of first-degree murder and is currently being held at the Maricopa County jail on a $1 million bail.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, and authorities will continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to build a comprehensive understanding of the events leading up to the tragedy. The court proceedings will shed further light on the motive and circumstances surrounding this horrific crime.
