Louisville, Kentucky – Mayor Craig Greenberg announced on Tuesday that the video footage capturing the arrest of pro golfer Scottie Scheffler outside Valhalla Golf Club will be made public this week. The incident, which took place on the second day of the PGA Championship, was recorded by a pole camera across the street from the club entrance on Shelbyville Road, as no officer body-worn camera footage of the initial interaction exists.
While Greenberg confirmed viewing the recording, he refrained from providing specifics, stating, “I will let the video speak for itself.” The mayor emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold without interference, expressing hope for a resolution by June 3.
Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked golfer and reigning Masters champion, was charged with felony assault of a police officer following his arrest on Friday. The altercation occurred after Scheffler allegedly failed to comply with instructions and accelerated his vehicle, resulting in Detective Bryan Gillis sustaining injuries.
In response to the incident, an internal investigation within the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has been initiated.
