Authorities looking for escaped inmates

AMITE CITY, LA – Authorities in Louisiana are on the lookout for four inmates who made a daring escape from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on Sunday night, officials reported.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards of Tangipahoa Parish revealed that the inmates managed to breach the facility’s perimeter fence during their recreation time in the jail yard. The escapees have been identified as Omarion Hookfin, 19, Avery Guidry, 19, Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, and Travon Johnson, 21.

An inspection of the jail’s perimeter fence revealed a section that was particularly vulnerable, allowing the inmates to slip through with relative ease, according to the sheriff’s office. Johnson, Hookfin, and Guidry were incarcerated in connection with a 2022 homicide in Hammond, Louisiana, while Cyprian faced charges of armed robbery and weapons violations. Additionally, Hookfin had been charged with aggravated battery during his time in Catahoula Parish.

The escape has heightened concerns within the community, as authorities urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the fugitives to contact 911 immediately. The sheriff’s office is working tirelessly to track down the escapees and ensure they are returned to custody without incident.

The incident has prompted a review of security measures at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail to prevent future escapes. The sheriff’s office is expected to implement more stringent protocols to safeguard against similar breaches.

Residents of Tangipahoa Parish are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement. The search for the escaped inmates continues, with authorities emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in their efforts to recapture the fugitives.
