Beachgoer accidentally gets impaled by umbrella

COCOA BEACH, FL – A chilling incident unfolded at a Florida beach when a dislodged umbrella impaled a sunbathing woman’s leg. The freak accident occurred as the woman and her family were enjoying a day out in Cocoa Beach, according to the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

The incident was reportedly triggered when the group’s rental umbrella suddenly disengaged from the sand and directly pierced the woman’s leg. Crawford County Fire Rescue and the Cocoa Beach Fire Department promptly responded to the scene after authorities were alerted.

The current health status of the woman and the exact circumstances leading to the distressing incident remain unclear. “We do not have any more information,” a police spokesperson reiterated when probed about the incident.

The spokesperson added that, though officers were sent to the scene, the incident primarily fell under a medical emergency and was managed accordingly by the fire departments.

It’s worth noting that such accidents involving beach umbrellas, although rare, are not unheard of. For example, a woman suffered a fatal injury in South Carolina in 2023 when a rogue umbrella impaled her chest. Similarly, in 2019, a Florida teen vacationing in Massachusetts had to be hospitalized after a beach umbrella impaled him.
