Bear Burglar Caught Red-Handed: Sneaky Animal Steals Oreos from Monrovia Home

MONROVIA, Calif. – A surprising incident unfolded in a Monrovia home when a bear managed to break into a residence, leading to speculation from neighbors that the animal’s target was none other than a pack of Oreos, a beloved snack in many households.

The break-in occurred along the 200 block of Canyon Crest Drive, caught on video by Eyewitness News. The footage captured the bear entering through a window and emerging with a distinctive blue package of Oreo cookies clenched in its jaws.

Neighbors, like Vina Khoury, expressed shock at the close encounter with the bear, highlighting the unusual nature of the incident. Such occurrences are becoming more frequent, with Dominic Sbicca noting an increased boldness in bears staking out territories over the years.

In a previous episode, a smaller bear had raided the same family’s car, emphasizing a pattern of behavior involving thievery of Oreos. Khoury recounted a similar run-in she had experienced when a bear infiltrated her garage to snatch a chocolate cake.

The escalating brazenness of these animal intrusions has left residents on edge, with Khoury expressing concern over the bear’s ability to breach even secured spaces, like breaking through screens on windows.

Despite the alarming nature of the incident, no injuries were reported. Authorities from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were contacted for insights but have yet to provide a response.

These bizarre encounters serve as a stark reminder of the increasing interaction between wildlife and urban environments, prompting residents to remain vigilant and take precautions to safeguard against unexpected wildlife encounters.
