Lake Oswego, Oregon – Former NBA player Ben McLemore faced serious charges in Clackamas County Circuit Court, including first-degree rape and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, both carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Additionally, he faces two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, each potentially resulting in a five-year prison term.
The allegations against McLemore stem from an incident in October 2021 in Lake Oswego, where the victim reported the assault taking place at a residence on Cherry Lane. The former Portland Trail Blazers member was arrested at Portland International Airport by the U.S. Marshals Service on an outstanding felony warrant related to the charges.
During the investigation, McLemore had relocated out of state and frequently traveled internationally for work, which caused delays. However, a grand jury indictment was issued in February after gathering evidence and hearing testimony from the victim.
McLemore, drafted seventh overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2013, played for various NBA teams but has not been in the league since 2022. The 31-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on July 1 at 10 a.m. to address the charges.
Authorities commended the victim for coming forward and enduring the difficult process, pledging continued support. The case underscores the importance of addressing allegations of sexual assault and providing survivors with necessary support and resources throughout the legal process.
