Dive teams were able to retrieve the body of 38-year-old Maynor Suazo Sandoval around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, bringing some closure to his family who had been anxiously awaiting news of his fate.
Unified Command, the group of agencies overseeing the response to the bridge collapse, had been working tirelessly to locate the missing workers. Suazo Sandoval’s brother, Carlos Alexis Suazo Sandoval, expressed gratitude upon receiving the news, stating that it was their top priority to find his brother and bring some peace to the family.
Initially, authorities believed that a total of six construction workers, including Suazo Sandoval, had fallen to their deaths after a ship collided with the Key Bridge, causing it to collapse. The bodies of two workers had already been recovered earlier in the week, leaving four still missing before Suazo Sandoval was found.
