Breaking: Tampa Bay Lightning Acquire Stanley Cup Champion Jake Guentzel in Trade Shock!

TAMPA BAY, FL – The Tampa Bay Lightning have made a significant acquisition by bringing forward Jake Guentzel on board from the Carolina Hurricanes. This exchange was finalized in return for a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, as confirmed by vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois today.

Last season, Guentzel, 29, showcased his skills in 67 games split between the Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins. He achieved impressive stats with 30 goals, 77 points, and a commendable plus-25 rating. Upon joining Carolina on March 8, Guentzel emerged as a key player, leading the team in assists and scoring with 25 points and 17 assists in just 17 games. Notably, he topped the Carolina skaters with nine power-play points during this period.

Having secured a Stanley Cup victory with the Penguins in 2013, Guentzel brings a wealth of experience to the Lightning. Throughout his career, he has competed in 520 regular season games, accumulating 227 goals, 491 points, 121 power-play points, and 31 game-winning goals. Originally hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, Guentzel has also proven to be a valuable asset in the playoffs, participating in 69 playoff games and recording 67 points, including 38 goals and 29 assists.

Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 180 pounds, Guentzel was initially drafted by the Penguins back in 2013 as the 77th overall pick in the third round of the NHL Draft. His versatile skills and championship experience are expected to bolster the Tampa Bay Lightning’s lineup significantly, providing depth and a scoring threat on the ice. With Guentzel’s addition, the Lightning aim to enhance their chances of competing at the highest level in the upcoming NHL season.
