Brewers Designate Thyago Vieira for Assignment, Call Up Bradley Blalock for MLB Debut

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The Brewers made roster moves on Monday, announcing that right-hander Thyago Vieira has been designated for assignment. Taking his spot on the roster is right-hander Bradley Blalock, who will be making his MLB debut after being called up from Double-A Biloxi. Additionally, outfielder Chris Roller has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville, while outfielder Joey Wiemer has been reinstated from the injured list.

Vieira, known for his high-velocity pitches, has struggled this season, posting a 5.64 ERA over 22 1/3 innings. Despite striking out a solid 23.6% of batters, he has also walked 12.3% of opponents and given up six home runs. Vieira, one of the few Brazilian-born players in MLB history, previously had success with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan before joining the Brewers. The team now has the option to trade him, waive him, or release him within the next week.

On the other hand, Blalock, a former 32nd-round pick traded from the Red Sox to the Brewers, has shown promise with a 2.27 ERA in seven starts at the Double-A level this season. Regarded for his good command and solid pitching repertoire, Blalock is seen as a potential back-end starter with the ability to contribute in a long-relief role.

With several key pitchers like Brandon Woodruff and DL Hall currently on the injured list, the Brewers have been working to fill gaps in their starting rotation. While Blalock may not be immediately slotted into a starting role, he could see opportunities later in the season as the team navigates through their pitching staff.

Blalock’s debut comes at a crucial time for the Brewers as they look to maintain their competitive edge in the upcoming games. The young pitcher’s performance could play a significant role in the team’s success as they strive to secure wins in the challenging matchups ahead.
