Bridge shooting causes traffic delays – The Crescent City Connection Reopens After Shooting Incident Snarls Traffic to Westbank

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Crescent City Connection has reopened following a shooting near the bridge that caused significant traffic delays Thursday afternoon. The New Orleans Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 12:44 p.m. after a hospital contacted them with a gunshot wound victim. The victim, a 23-year-old man, was shot on the incline near the Tchoupitoulas on ramp heading to the Westbank on the CCC. He was transported to a Westbank hospital in grave condition, according to police.

Initially classified as a homicide, the condition of the victim was later changed to serious by NOPD. Investigators found numerous shell casings at the scene and are working to determine whether the incident was a gun battle or if the suspect and victim were in the same car. The exact location of the crime scene is still under investigation, and all lanes of the bridge have since reopened, although delays are still anticipated.

The investigation prompted the closure of US 90 at the St. Charles Ave exit westbound while NOPD worked to determine the exact location of the crime scene. Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in providing any information related to the shooting. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has other relevant information is encouraged to contact NOPD at 504-658-5300 or to reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111.

The shooting caused significant traffic disruptions, with all traffic being diverted near the downtown Saint Charles exit. Backups extended all the way out on 610 near New Orleans East and to the Jefferson Parish line. While the bridge has since reopened and traffic is flowing, the impact on the evening commute is expected to persist. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and provide any information that could aid in resolving the case.
