Call of Duty Progression Wiped: Servers Down, Double XP Extended – What You Need to Know

Los Angeles, CA – Call of Duty players were met with a frustrating surprise when they discovered their progress had been reset in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. This included the loss of weapon progression, player level, and access to purchased store bundles. The issue affected not only Modern Warfare 3 but also Warzone and Modern Warfare Zombies.

In response to the problem, the Call of Duty teams took action by disabling player access to Ranked Play and Modern Warfare Zombies while they investigated the bug. Updates were swiftly deployed to fix the progression problems across impacted games. Ranked Play modes and Warzone’s Champion’s Quest remained disabled until the player progress was fully restored.

A crucial update on February 23rd reported that a fix had been implemented to restore player progression in Modern Warfare 3, Modern Warfare 2, and Warzone. However, Ranked Play modes and the Champion’s Quest challenge for Warzone would remain disabled during the progression restoration process. Double XP events were activated to compensate for the inconvenience.

Following the update, on February 24th, Ranked play modes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were back online. Players could once again access Modern Warfare Zombies, and Warzone’s Champion’s Quest challenge was also reactivated. Additionally, a Double XP event was extended until Tuesday, February 27th.

Despite these fixes, minor bugs still required addressing, including issues with player-controlled cruise missiles in multiplayer patches not functioning correctly. Sledgehammer Games, the lead studio behind Modern Warfare 3, had previously discussed Skill-based Match Making (SBMM) and even planned to create an experimental playlist allowing players to join matches without SBMM.

This outage came shortly after Call of Duty was declared the best-selling game of January 2024. Developed by Activision and now under the management of Xbox following Microsoft’s acquisition of the publisher, the popular first-person shooter franchise continues to face challenges and disruptions. Xbox continues to navigate the integration of Call of Duty titles into Xbox Game Pass amidst legal challenges arising from the merger deal.

As the situation continues to evolve, players remain on standby for further updates and resolutions to ensure a smooth gaming experience in the beloved franchise.
