Car crashes into Walmart, eight people injured

CANTON, MI – A bizarre accident occurred at a Walmart on 39500 Ford Road, Canton, on Friday afternoon when an SUV careened through the store’s door. The crash injured several customers, including a child.

Canton police report the SUV surprisingly penetrated about 50 feet into the building around 1:30 p.m., causing thousands in damages. The incident, police suggest, appears to have been spurred by the driver suffering a medical emergency, leading to unintentional acceleration into the store.

Eyewitness Mary Kubik recounts hearing a sound akin to an explosion, followed by flying debris. Upon locating her mother in the wreckage, Kubik proceeded to provide impromptu first aid to a woman suffering a facial injury, as well as attending to the woman’s injured grandchild.

Despite the chaos, Kubik praised the composure and collective spirit of the Walmart associates and shoppers as they worked together to clear debris and search for trapped individuals.

Further information reveals those injured are currently receiving treatment or have been discharged. Five individuals, including the driver, were transported to local hospitals while on-site treatment was provided to three others by paramedics. These emergency responses were coordinated by first responders hailing from Canton, Livonia, Plymouth, and Westland.

Walmart has since temporarily closed the Canton branch while cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
