Ceasefire Chaos: Pro-Palestinian Protesters Shut Down SFO Terminal, Call for Violence End In Gaza

San Francisco – Pro-Palestinian demonstrators took over San Francisco International Airport on Wednesday to demand a ceasefire in Gaza. The protesters, affiliated with Critical Resistance, gathered at the international terminal, holding up signs and blocking security gates. The group called for an end to the violence that has resulted in the deaths of nearly 30,000 Palestinians.

About 300 protesters participated in the peaceful demonstration, which lasted for 153 minutes, symbolizing each day of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Despite the disruption, airport operations continued as scheduled, with flights departing on time. The demonstrators eventually dispersed around noon, with no reports of arrests.

While some travelers expressed frustration at the inconvenience caused by the protest, organizers emphasized the importance of their actions in calling for immediate ceasefire and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel. SFO spokesman Doug Yakel confirmed that passengers were rerouted to avoid the demonstration, ensuring minimal disruption to travel plans.

The protesters, primarily Bay Area residents, acted independently, driven by a shared goal of advocating for peace in Gaza. This demonstration is part of a larger movement of protests across the nation and the Bay Area against the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza since the conflict began on October 7.

Despite concerns raised by some travelers, the protesters maintained their peaceful stance throughout the demonstration. Airport officials worked with protest leaders to coordinate activities and ensure a safe environment for all passengers. The protest did not cause any delays to BART service at SFO, according to the transit agency.

By working with law enforcement and adhering to their commitments, the organizers successfully concluded the protest without incidents. The decision to disperse was made to prioritize the safety of participants, reflecting the group’s commitment to nonviolent protest tactics.

The demonstration at SFO echoes similar protests that have taken place in the Bay Area, highlighting the ongoing calls for peace and justice in Gaza. As activists continue to raise awareness and demand action, the impact of their advocacy resonates across the community.
