Chipotle worker shot by customer over argument about guacamole

SOUTHFIELD, MI – The scene at a Chipotle in Southfield, Michigan, turned chaotic on Friday evening when an argument over guacamole led to a violent shooting. The gunfire left a Chipotle employee injured. The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. at the Chipotle branch on Evergreen Road near Civic Center Drive.

In the wake of the disagreement, a customer fired a shot, striking a 21-year-old male employee in the leg. Michael Beals, a witness to the incident who managed to video it, shared his disbelief: “It was loud, and we all just ran out.”

Following the shooting, the wounded employee was immediately transferred to a local hospital for treatment. Currently, his condition is reported to be stable, and the injury is not life-threatening.

Thomas Huber, another witness, offered a detailed account of the events leading to the shooting: “I was just eating a bowl and I heard shouting. And then I looked over, they’re arguing.”

The suspected shooter, a 31-year-old man from Detroit, was apprehended by authorities shortly after he fled the scene. Beals described the shooter’s unnerving calm post-incident, saying, “He took his time getting out…probably 30 seconds after (the shot was fired)”

The fast-food chain was shut down following police arrival.
