Conservatorship Approved for Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson as Judge Rules on His Health Battle

Los Angeles, California – Renowned musician Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys has been placed under a conservatorship due to a “major neurocognitive disorder,” a judge ruled on Thursday. The decision was made by Judge Gus T. May during a hearing held in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

According to court documents, Wilson did not object to the conservatorship. His longtime manager LeeAnn Hard and publicist Jean Sievers were appointed as his conservators. They were granted the authority to make decisions regarding Wilson’s medical care, including the administration of medications for his neurocognitive disorder.

The conservatorship was deemed necessary for the protection of Wilson, who is unable to care for himself, as stated in a minute order from the hearing. The court found that the conservatorship is the least restrictive alternative needed to safeguard the musician.

In a statement shared on social media, Wilson’s family expressed their approval of the conservatorship. They mentioned that there would be no drastic changes to Wilson’s household following the appointment of Hard and Sievers as his co-conservators.

The filing for the conservatorship stated that Wilson’s late wife, Melinda Ledbetter, had managed his daily needs before her passing in January. It was noted that Wilson credited Ledbetter with stabilizing his life.

Wilson’s family, including his children and representatives, confirmed the appointment of Hard and Sievers as co-conservators in the statement. They emphasized that Wilson would still be able to enjoy time with family and friends, work on projects, and participate in activities of his choice.

The conservatorship of Brian Wilson sheds light on the importance of ensuring the well-being and care of individuals facing cognitive disorders. It underscores the role of guardianship in providing necessary support and protection for those who may be unable to care for themselves.
