Construction Worker Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval Recovered: 3 Still Missing After Key Bridge Collapse

Baltimore, Maryland – The recovery efforts at the Francis Scott Key Bridge following its collapse continue, with one missing construction worker’s body being recently found. Out of the six workers who tragically lost their lives during the disaster, three workers still remain unaccounted for, adding to the sorrow and uncertainty surrounding the incident.

Authorities have identified the recovered individual as 38-year-old Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval. Originally from Honduras, Suazo-Sandoval had immigrated to the United States over 17 years ago, with dreams of starting a small business. Described as bringing joy and humor to his family, he was one of the six construction workers who lost their lives when a cargo ship crashed into the Baltimore bridge on March 26.

The bodies of two workers, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, were recovered a day after the collapse. They were found trapped in a submerged red pickup truck near the middle span of the bridge. Three workers, including Miguel Luna from El Salvador, a worker from Guatemala, and another from Mexico, are still missing and presumed dead.

Maryland authorities have deployed recovery teams to locate the missing workers, with Colonel Roland L. Butler Jr. expressing their commitment to finding closure for the families affected by the tragedy. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott acknowledges the emotional toll on the families and continues to support them through this difficult time.

President Joe Biden visited the site of the collapse, commending the first responders for their efforts and meeting with the families of the victims. The tragedy reminds us of the sacrifices made by hardworking individuals, such as those who were trying to repair potholes on the bridge that thousands of travelers crossed daily.

As the recovery efforts persist, the community mourns the loss and supports the families of the victims in their search for closure. The incident serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by workers in construction and the impact of such tragedies on families and communities.
