Couple gets electrocuted in resort hot tub

PUERTO PEÑASCO, MEXICO – Authorities revealed on Wednesday that a Texas man lost his life after being fatally electrocuted while visiting a resort in Mexico. The incident also critically injured a woman. The deadly electrocution happened while they were inside a hot tub at a private condo complex located in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico.

State investigators are looking into the fatal accident, with initial findings suggesting an “electric discharge” as the cause. The victims, a 43-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were reportedly sitting inside the hot tub when the electrocution occurred around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The man has been identified as Jorge Guillen, and the woman as Lizette Zambrano, both from El Paso, Texas. A GoFundMe campaign that was set up for the couple has already exceeded $21,000 in donations.

The exact origin of the electrical malfunction that led to the incident is still currently under investigation by the authorities. The attorney general’s office has promised to provide more details about the deadly incident in a later statement.

Despite initial reports linking the incident to a Jacuzzi, a representative from the Jacuzzi company has confirmed that the hot tub involved in the couple’s electrocution was not one of their products.
