Kansas City, Missouri – In a significant move, the Kansas City Chiefs have acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans, as reported by various sources. The addition of 32-year-old Hopkins is expected to bolster the Chiefs’ receiving unit following a string of injuries to key players like Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
The trade involves the Chiefs sending a fifth-round draft pick to the Titans, with the potential for it to become a fourth-rounder if Kansas City reaches the Super Bowl and Hopkins meets certain playtime criteria. Additionally, Tennessee will be contributing $2.5 million towards Hopkins’ contract.
Hopkins, who has 15 catches for 173 yards this season, brings a wealth of experience to the Chiefs, having recorded 75 catches for 1,057 yards last season with the Titans. Despite dealing with a knee injury in training camp, Hopkins is poised to make a significant impact for Kansas City.
This trade marks the latest in a series of notable receiver transactions in the NFL, with other prominent players like Davante Adams and Amari Cooper being moved in recent days. The Chiefs, who currently hold the best record in the league at 6-0, have been actively seeking to support quarterback Patrick Mahomes with additional receiving options.
The arrival of Hopkins comes at a crucial time for the Chiefs, as injuries have sidelined key receivers like Brown and Rice for the foreseeable future. With Smith-Schuster also recovering from a hamstring injury, Kansas City’s receiving corps has been depleted, prompting the team to make a move for Hopkins.
Notably, this is not the first time the Chiefs have resorted to in-season trades to bolster their receiving group. In previous seasons, the team made significant acquisitions like Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman, both of whom played key roles in the Chiefs’ journey to Super Bowl victories.
As the Chiefs gear up for the remainder of the season, the addition of Hopkins has the potential to elevate their offense and strengthen their position as contenders in the league. With Mahomes at the helm and Hopkins now in the mix, Kansas City’s passing game is set to receive a significant boost.
