DeChambeau Snubbed: Scheffler, Schauffele, Clark, and Morikawa to Lead Team USA in Olympic Men’s Golf

Paris, France – The US Men’s Olympic golf team for the Paris Games has officially been announced, with Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, and Collin Morikawa set to represent the United States. Notably absent from the team is Bryson DeChambeau, who recently won the U.S. Open but did not make the cut for the American squad.

The selection of golfers for the Olympic men’s field was based on the International Golf Federation world rankings, which align with the Official World Golf Rankings. However, the OWGR has chosen not to assign ranking points to LIV Golf events due to certain discrepancies, including the league’s team tournament format and guarantees of inclusion for high-profile players.

Despite protests from LIV Golfers following the league’s inception in 2022, the IGF stood firm on its decision not to modify the qualification system for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This decision meant that LIV golfers could only earn ranking points if they participated in major championships, causing many players to drop in the rankings since leaving the PGA Tour.

Even though DeChambeau managed to secure a top ranking after his win at the U.S. Open, he was still unable to earn a spot on the limited U.S. Olympic team roster. With countries restricted to four golfers in the 60-player field, Scheffler, Schauffele, Clark, and Morikawa all ranked ahead of DeChambeau. Notably, Clark, who won the U.S. Open last year, has struggled to maintain top-level performance in major events since his victory.

While the U.S. Olympic team will not include DeChambeau, other LIV Golfers like Jon Rahm of Spain, David Puig of Spain, Adrian Meronk of Poland, JoaquĆn Niemann of Chile, and Carlos Ortiz and Abraham Ancer of Mexico will be competing in the games. The Olympic women’s golf field is set to be announced after the Women’s PGA Championship, one of the five major events in women’s golf, concludes next week.
