Defense US declares Iran’s weekend attack on Israel a spectacular failure – IDF’s defensive prowess shines

Jerusalem, Israel – The recent drone and missile attack on Israel by Iran over the weekend was deemed a failure by US officials, highlighting the defensive capabilities of the Israel Defense Forces. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet are currently considering potential retaliatory actions in response to the attack.

US National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby dismissed claims that the Iranian attack was intentionally meant to fail, stating that Iran’s clear intent was to cause significant destruction and casualties. Despite the scale of the attack, a coalition of five countries, including Israel, the US, Jordan, France, and Great Britain, successfully repelled over 300 missiles and drones targeting Israel.

This marked the first time that this coalition of forces has acted as a military defensive force in the region and in defense of Israel. Kirby emphasized that the attack failed due to the unified efforts of Israel, the United States, and other partners committed to Israel’s defense.

Reports suggesting that Iran provided early warnings or details of the attack through third parties were dismissed as false by Kirby. He affirmed that there was no communication regarding the timeframe, targets, or the necessary response, highlighting the effectiveness of the preparations made by the coalition.

The failed attack by Iran comes following a previous instance where the IDF failed to protect its southern border against Hamas. The timing of the attack appeared to coincide with Israel’s perceived isolation on the international stage due to its military campaign against Hamas, an Iranian proxy group.

Kirby emphasized the strategic advantage that Israel now holds following the failed Iranian attack, showcasing the superior defensive capabilities of Israel’s defense systems. The support received by Israel from the international community further solidifies its position in the region.

While the US remains committed to Israel’s defense, officials have expressed a desire to avoid further escalation with Iran. President Joe Biden has urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to view the successful defense of Israel as a victory, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability in the region. Kirby issued a veiled warning to Iran, indicating that the US stands ready to defend Israel in the future.
