Deputy Shot in the Back on Motorcycle: Search for Suspect Urged in West Covina Incident

West Covina, Calif. – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy was shot in the back while sitting on his motorcycle at an intersection in West Covina. The incident occurred on Monday, prompting officials to seek assistance from the public in identifying the suspect.

Deputy Samuel Aispuro, 43, was on his motorcycle waiting at a traffic light when he was shot in the back by a single bullet, as confirmed by Sheriff Robert Luna. The attack took place near Barranca Street and North Garvey Avenue around 2:45 p.m., near the 10 Freeway.

Despite wearing body armor, Deputy Aispuro sustained injuries but was able to radio for help before being taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, his vest likely saved his life, as he was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.

The sheriff’s office initially detained several individuals as persons of interest, but they were later released. Authorities indicated that they are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect responsible for the shooting.

Following the attack, Sheriff Luna emphasized the danger posed by the unknown assailant and stressed the importance of removing the suspect from the community to ensure public safety. A description of the suspect vehicle, a white sedan with tinted windows, was provided, urging anyone with information to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Aispuro, a dedicated law enforcement officer with over 19 years of service, was described as a devoted public servant. The incident has sparked a call for cooperation and vigilance from the community to assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice and preventing further incidents. Luna reiterated the importance of community support in ensuring a safe environment for all residents.
