Orlando, Florida – A tragic incident at Disney World has led to a lawsuit being filed by the husband of a New York doctor who passed away reportedly due to an allergic reaction. The lawsuit asserts negligence on the part of the Florida resort and a restaurant where she dined.
According to the complaint filed in a Florida circuit court, Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan, 42, died of an anaphylactic reaction on October 5 after dining at Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at Disney Springs. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of her husband Jeffrey J. Piccolo, alleges that despite assurances of allergy-safe food, the restaurant served Tangsuan food that contained allergens.
The couple, along with Piccolo’s mother, visited the restaurant believing it could accommodate Tangsuan’s severe allergies. They reportedly informed the server about her allergies and were assured that the specific items ordered would be allergen-free. However, after inquiring multiple times and receiving reassurances, some of the dishes arrived without allergen-free flags.
Following the meal, Tangsuan began experiencing difficulty breathing and collapsed at a nearby restaurant after using her EpiPen. Despite efforts to save her, she tragically passed away. An autopsy revealed elevated levels of dairy and nut in her system, with the cause of death deemed accidental.
The complaint, naming the restaurant and Disney Parks and Resorts as defendants, seeks damages in excess of $50,000 and alleges multiple counts of negligence. While the defendants have not yet formally responded, their lawyers have been in contact with the plaintiff’s attorneys.
Tangsuan, a physician with NYU Langone Health, had plans for starting a family with Piccolo. The passing of Tangsuan has deeply saddened her colleagues and loved ones, with condolences pouring in for her family during this difficult time.
The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper food allergen management and the potential consequences of negligence in accommodating individuals with severe allergies. As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on seeking justice for Tangsuan and holding accountable those responsible for the events that led to her untimely passing.
