Disney World Lightning Lane Passes Get a Major Makeover: What You Need to Know Before Your Trip

Orlando, Florida – Disney World in Florida is set to introduce new changes to its line-skipping passes, rebranding its Genie+ service to “Lightning Lane Multi Pass,” and its individual Lightning Lane entry to “Lightning Lane Single Pass” starting July 24. The move comes as Disney aims to improve guests’ planning experience and streamline the process for visitors to its theme parks in Florida.

According to a recent announcement from Disney, the updated passes will combine elements from existing services and the FastPass+ Service, offering guests the flexibility to plan ahead and eliminate the need for last-minute arrangements during their vacation in Florida. The rebranding is part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to enhance the overall guest experience at its theme parks.

With the revamped passes, guests staying at Disney Resort hotels will have the option to book attractions up to seven days in advance for their entire trip, as long as it is less than two weeks in duration. This advance booking capability also extends to guests staying at select other hotels, providing them with added convenience and flexibility during their visit to Disney World.

In addition, Disney World visitors not staying at eligible hotels will have a three-day window to purchase Lightning Lane passes for various attractions at the theme park. The Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows guests to select three attractions and view available time slots in advance, including popular rides like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Mission: SPACE, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.

Moreover, the Lightning Lane Single Passes will offer guests the opportunity to book time slots in advance for attractions such as TRON Lightcycle, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Avatar Flight of Passage. These updates are designed to give visitors greater flexibility and control over their theme park experience, ensuring a more seamless and enjoyable visit to Disney World.

It is important to note that these changes will only apply to Disney World in Florida, as Disneyland in California will not be implementing the new pass system. The purchasing, selection, and redemption process for Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland will remain unchanged for the time being, with Disney focusing its updates primarily on the Florida theme park.

Disney’s parks and experiences, which include Disney World and Disneyland, play a significant role in the company’s overall revenue stream. The domestic parks and experiences contributed nearly $5.96 billion in revenue during the second quarter, with quarterly operating income amounting to $1.6 billion. Meanwhile, international parks and experiences generated $1.52 billion in revenue and $292 million in operating income for the same period.

Looking ahead, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger emphasized the company’s commitment to driving growth through strategic investments in its experiences division. With these new changes to its line-skipping passes at Disney World, Disney aims to provide guests with a more convenient and efficient way to enjoy the attractions and entertainment at the theme park.
