Domestic violence suspect shot dead by police

TUCSON, AZ – An individual, whose identity hasn’t been unveiled yet, died in an officer-involved shooting on the Eastside of Tucson. The Tucson police were initially at the scene in response to reports correlated to domestic violence involving a firearm. The scene of the crime was in the residential area of East Calle Merida, near Pantano Wash.

On reaching the crime scene, the officers succeeded in getting two female victims to leave safely while the male suspect stayed inside. As per the officers’ account, during interactions with the man, they learned he had numerous firearms, a history of mental health issues, and had been consuming alcohol. An audible sound of a shotgun being racked was also heard by officers at one point.

The suspect, at a certain moment, came out of the house and escalated the dangerous situation by pointing a gun toward the officers, which resulted in an officer shooting him with his rifle.

Despite the first aid administered by those present at the scene and subsequent hospitalization, the man was later pronounced dead.

Thankfully, no additional injuries were reported from the incident. As is standard protocol following incidents like this, the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team has stepped in to take over the investigation.
