Driver dies after 18-wheeler crashes into house

MISSION, TX – An 18-wheeler driver lost his life when his vehicle seemingly lost control and crashed into an unoccupied house on West Expressway 83, Mission, Texas. The incident, as reported by the Mission Police Department, occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 9 a.m., prior to which the 18-wheeler also collided with two other cars.

One of the two other vehicles involved, a red Fiat, was being driven by a male driver who, while surviving the crash, was admitted to a local hospital with non-threatening injuries. He is currently under medical observation.

Jorge Rodriguez, spokesperson for the Mission police, confirmed the death of the 51-year-old truck driver at the location of the brazen accident. Cleanup activities, including removal of the 18-wheeler, have been underway since Saturday evening and are expected to continue for the next few hours.

The incident was witnessed by Alejandro Avila, an employee at JR’s Tires and Wheels, a neighboring business to the impacted house. Recounting his experience, Avila was initially fearful that their building would be hit, but was relieved that nobody was hurt and that the building remained intact, as it missed by just a few feet.

The house, recently listed for sale, was due for viewing by a prospective client later that day, informed property agent Diana Ortiz. In the aftermath of the accident, an autopsy of the 18-wheeler driver has been ordered.
