Driver intentionally runs over couple out for an evening walk

CHESTERFIELD, VA – A devastating scene unfolded Monday evening in Chesterfield, Virginia, when a man allegedly deliberately struck a couple out for an evening walk, resulting in the death of the wife. The husband survived, though injured. The driver who hit them is facing a series of charges, including second-degree murder.

Derek Bizzell recalled the tragic incident, explaining how his wife, 42-year-old Shaunda Bizzell, had accompanied him for the first time on his regular evening walk. During their second loop, a car seemingly swerved towards them.

Recalling the horrifying incident, he said, “I screamed her name, and all I heard was the thump.” After the accident, an injured Derek found himself unable to articulate a call to 911 and was aided by nearby people who relayed necessary information.

Shaunda Bizzell, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The Bizzells are survived by their two adult children.

Oddly enough, the Chesterfield police were responding to a separate complaint of threatening calls made to the 911 center when they came across the accident.

The driver, 22-year-old Daniel N. Anderson, was identified as the caller in question, having allegedly been making serious threats, including “threats to shoot a school, bomb a building and assault police officers.”

Preliminary investigations by the police led to the conclusion that Anderson had purposely driven into the Bizzells.

Anderson was swiftly detained at the scene and is now facing charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, making a threat of death or bodily injury, and threatening to bomb or damage buildings.

Meanwhile, a grieving and injured Derek Bizzell, left to pick up the pieces, expressed his tragic wish: “I’m a little banged up, but if I could trade places with my wife, I would.”
