Dune Director Denis Villeneuve in Talks for Next Big Project: Nuclear War Adaptation Confirmed by Legendary

New York City, USA – French-Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, known for his recent success with “Dune: Part Two,” is in talks for his next potential project. Villeneuve is reportedly discussing a collaboration with Legendary for an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Pulitzer Prize finalist book, “Nuclear War: A Scenario.” Additionally, Legendary has confirmed that they are working with Villeneuve on developing a third installment in the “Dune” film series.

The rights to Jacobsen’s nonfiction book were acquired by Legendary, with Villeneuve potentially taking on roles in producing, adapting, and directing the project. His producing partner, Tanya Lapointe, is also expected to be involved in the production. Jacobsen’s book, released in March, delves into the hypothetical aftermath of a nuclear war based on insights from military and civilian experts.

While Villeneuve continues to explore new projects, “Dune: Part Two” is still enjoying significant success at the box office, having grossed over $630 million globally. The sequel, featuring a star-studded cast including Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, is the highest-grossing film of 2024, following the protagonist Paul Atreides as he seeks vengeance for his family’s downfall. Villeneuve’s first “Dune” installment, released in 2021, also saw impressive global earnings of $402 million.

Jacobsen, a prolific author with works like “Area 51” and “Operation Paperclip” to her name, has a background in both writing and producing for television, including credits on “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.” Both Villeneuve and Jacobsen are represented by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), showcasing their continued collaboration.
