Los Angeles, California – A busy weekend for wide studio releases saw a trio of blockbuster films dominating the international box office. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” “Kung Fu Panda 4,” and “Dune: Part Two” led the way, with Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning film “The Boy and the Heron” making a significant impact in China, setting a new Qingming holiday record.

“Oppenheimer,” the Best Picture Oscar winner, achieved great success after its release in Japan, becoming Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing film internationally. Meanwhile, Disney/20th Century Studios’ “The First Omen” debuted to expected numbers in overseas markets, excluding France and Germany.

In Latin America, the horror genre proved to be popular, with “The First Omen” performing well in countries like Mexico, Indonesia, the UK, Korea, and Brazil. Universal also saw success with the rollout of Dev Patel’s directorial debut, “Monkey Man,” in 27 markets. The film’s early overseas earnings reached $2.6 million, with the UK leading the way at $1 million.

Warner Bros/Legendary’s “Godzilla x Kong” continued its strong performance at the international box office, raking in $59.3 million in 69 overseas markets. The film’s total international earnings now stand at $226 million, contributing to a global total of $361.1 million through Sunday.

“Dune: Part Two” also fared well, adding $11.2 million in 73 offshore markets, bringing its overseas total to $395.8 million. Additionally, Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” saw continued success with an international cume of $244.4 million, surpassing previous films in the franchise and other animated hits.

Overall, the international box office landscape remains competitive, with films like “Oppenheimer” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” making significant impacts in key markets like Japan and China.
