Duo charged with murder in motel shooting

GREENVILLE, SC – In connection to a fatal motel shooting last week, a man and woman were apprehended over the weekend. Both of the suspects have been charged with murder, officials disclosed on Monday.

Devonte Tyrese Orr, 20, and Joeanna Isabela Badger, 21, were arrested in Jasper County with the assistance of the local sheriff’s office and the Ridgeland Police Department, according to Deputy Jeremy Holt from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Holt confirmed that the pair had been implicated in the murder of Deontay Lynch, who was gunned down on Friday evening at the Day’s Inn and Suites located on Roper Mountain Road.

Investigators unearthed that Orr and Badger, thought to be acquainted with Lynch, paid him a visit at the motel. The visit culminated in a confrontation that resulted in Lynch being shot dead, revealed Holt.

According to warrants, Lynch’s room was entered without his permission, after which he was fatally shot with a handgun. The motive behind the shooting is still under active investigation, added Holt.

After being transported from Jasper County, Orr and Badger were booked into the Greenville County Detention Center on Monday. In addition to charges of murder, the pair also face charges of first-degree burglary and conspiracy, while Orr has been charged separately for possessing a weapon during a violent crime.

Holt stated that the duo was scheduled for a bond hearing on Monday evening.
