Eight people shot to death in mass shooting

HUITZILAC, MEXICO – In a brutal attack that shook southern Morelos State near Mexico City, a total of eight individuals lost their lives. As reported by the state authorities, the incident occurred in Huitzilac over the weekend, with casualties shared equally between on-scene deaths and hospital fatalities. The bulk of the victims were aged within the range of 29 to 50, while the eighth victim’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

Huitzilac, with its craggy terrains, has been a hotspot for a myriad of crimes- from illegal logging and kidnappings to the operations of drug gangs- with the convenient proximity to Mexico City taken advantage of by offenders. In the face of this escalating violence, Mayor Rafael Vargas issued a stern denunciation of this “terrible violent act.”

Transpiring in the heart of the town, “several people were attacked and killed,” Vargas lamented. In an attempt to defend the reputation of his constituents, the mayor asserted: “The violence should stop. We will denounce all types of slander that seek to damage our people.”

The neighboring Guerrero state, which harbors various drug cartels, shares its borders with Morelos. The latter is known for being a preferred vacationing spot for the residents of Mexico City.

Echoing the violent act, another state, Zacatecas, discovered 18 bodies annotated with messages addressed to a criminal group last week.
