Explosions Rock Clinton Township: Multiple Injuries, Air Quality Concerns, and Nearby Shooting Reported

Clinton Township, Michigan – A wholesaler building near 15 Mile and Groesbeck Highway exploded, causing multiple surrounding buildings to catch fire on Monday night. The explosions began around 9 p.m., prompting authorities to advise the public to steer clear of the area.

Preliminary reports suggest that Select Distributors, a supplier of nitrogen tanks, was the source of the fire, which spread rapidly due to the exploding tanks. One firefighter sustained minor injuries from falling shrapnel, while other injuries remain unconfirmed.

Residents as far as Mount Clemens and Sterling Heights reported hearing the loud explosions, leading to homes shaking in response. Concerns over air quality arose, with debris falling over the area, prompting officials to advise residents to stay indoors.

Firefighters are currently on-site trying to extinguish the flames as police direct traffic in the area. The fire appears to be diminishing as of 11 p.m.

Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with flames shooting up in the air and debris falling all around. DTE crews are shutting down power in the immediate vicinity to prevent further damage.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident following the explosions, reports of a shooting surfaced, with CPR being administered to the victim. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel confirmed the arrest of an individual with a handgun in the vicinity.
