Family arrested in connection with father’s murder

SUWANEE, FL – Three relatives of a Florida man, found dead in July 2021, were apprehended last week in relation to the ongoing murder investigation, according to law enforcement officials.

David Rainey’s wife, Cindy Rainey, reported him missing on the morning of July 25, 2021, as disclosed by the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office. The family, originally from Flagler County, were enjoying a vacation in the Town of Suwanee when the 54-year-old man disappeared.

Later that day, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office, having initiated a missing person’s investigation, discovered David Rainey’s body in a canal behind the vacation rental. He had multiple stab wounds to his chest and it was evident that his body had been placed in the water post-mortem. The cause of death was subsequently determined to be homicide.

Fast forward to over two years later, three family members of the deceased were taken into custody in relation to his murder. On Oct. 25, 2023, Cindy and Bailey Rainey were arrested in Bunnell, Florida with assistance from the Flagler County Sheriff’s office. Following this, investigators proceeded to Orlando, Florida where Jack Rainey was arrested with help from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The trio is currently facing charges of tampering with evidence. However, the sheriff’s office has not disclosed if any of the individuals were charged with the actual murder. The Dixie County State’s Attorney’s office has yet to respond to inquiries about the charges.
