Family Dollar & Dollar Tree Closing Over 1,000 Stores – Is Yours Next?

Humansville, Missouri – Family Dollar and its parent company, Dollar Tree, are set to shutter more than 1,000 stores in the near future. While the specific locations slated for closure have not been officially disclosed, a closure notice posted on the door of a Humansville Family Dollar store has confirmed its impending shutdown. Despite being in operation for only two years, the store has attracted a flurry of bargain hunters taking advantage of the closing sales.

For this year, Family Dollar, under the ownership of Dollar Tree, plans to close 600 of its locations. An additional 370 stores will follow suit over the next few years as their leases expire. Dollar Tree itself will also be closing down 30 stores shortly, as part of this corporate reshaping.

Debrah Brier and Gloria Williams, close friends of 25 years, recently spent a day scouring the dwindling inventory at the Humansville store. Brier shared, “Yesterday, I was here five times,” as they navigated the crowded aisles in search of discounted products. The building anticipation of the store’s closure has led to challenges like inventory hoarding, with Williams recounting instances of shoppers following those with carts to secure their own supplies.

As the community comes to terms with the impending closure, sentiments of disappointment and loss resonate among locals. Brier expressed, “It’s very sad. Humansville needs a place like this,” highlighting the impact that the store’s absence will have on the town. With the closest alternative shopping destinations now 20-40 minutes away in Stockton or El Dorado, residents face the inconvenience of traveling further for their everyday needs.

The closure of the Humansville Family Dollar not only marks the end of a shopping hub but also signals a significant shift in the local retail landscape. As residents grapple with the repercussions of losing a convenient and accessible option for their daily essentials, the community must now adapt to this changing reality.
