Family of 5 found dead inside their home

HONOLULU, HI – A horrific incident came to light on Sunday when Honolulu police discovered a family of five, including three children, dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide at a residence in Manoa, officials announced.

Police arrived at the location around 8:30 a.m. initially, but finding no answer on knocking, they left the scene. According to Lt. Deena Thoemmes who was present at a news conference on Sunday afternoon, a call from an unidentified individual triggered their first visit but without reason to breach the home, they withdrew.

On their return to the property at 9:15, following another report, officers were finally able to engage with a caller. Upon gaining access to the premises, they discovered a horrifying sight: a presumed mother and her three children, aged 10, 12, and 17, each fatally stabbed. The body of the likely father of the family was also found in the residence.

Thoemmes shared the initial findings of their investigation, suggesting that the husband was responsible for fatally stabbing his wife and children. The manner of the husband’s death is yet to be established, with police currently investigating the possibility of self-inflicted injuries.

While the exact ages of the adults were not immediately confirmed, the formal identification of the family is expected to be released by the medical examiner’s office.

In terms of history, the police did not have any record of domestic complaints from the residence and thus far, the motive behind these gruesome murders remains unclear, shared Thoemmes.
