Family of three killed inside their home

KANSAS CITY, MO – A welfare check turned into a scene of tragedy for Kansas City police, who discovered a family of three dead in a Northland home. Investigators identified the deceased family members as Domonique McGeachy, 38, her husband, Jerel McGeachy, 38, and their 12-year-old son, Jerel Jr. Their untimely deaths are believed to be the result of a murder-suicide incident.

Officers were initially dispatched to the home on Northwest 90th Street Monday morning. When they arrived at the scene, they found the body of the child. A short time later, the bodies of his parents were located, revealing the horrifying scope of the loss.

First responders further investigated the family’s injuries to determine what caused the devastating loss of life. Domonique and Jerel Jr. had suffered gunshot wounds, while Jerel’s death appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot.

The motive behind this devastating act remains unclear, leaving investigators searching for answers. Police stress that their investigation remains active and that the current determination is preliminary. No other suspects are being sought.

The incident has stunned residents of the quiet, newly-developed neighborhood. Neighbors who spoke to reporters struggled to make sense of the tragedy, describing the area as peaceful and family-oriented.
