Fire at chemical storage facility kills one, injures four others

RAYONG, TH – A chemical storage tank in the Mab Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Eastern Thailand was the site of a devastating fire, resulting in one fatality and injuries to four others. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, led to the evacuation of approximately 400 workers and nearby residents.

The fire, first reported in the morning, took over six hours to contain, and fire officials estimated that a full extinguishment would require more than ten hours. The tank, owned by Mab Ta Phut Tank Terminal company, a commercial port and storage terminal operator for petrochemical products, was filled with Pyrolysis gasoline, a common gasoline blending chemical.

The company is currently investigating the cause of the fire and has pledged to take necessary measures to prevent future occurrences. They have also expressed their readiness to provide compensation to those affected by the incident.

This is not the first time the company has experienced such a disaster. In 2021, operations were temporarily halted following a similar fire that resulted in three fatalities and two serious injuries.
