Five teens hurt, 14-year-old killed in party shooting

BUFFALO, NY – A 14-year-old girl lost her life and five other teenagers were injured during a shooting that transpired Saturday night near a house party in Buffalo, New York. The fatal incident took place only a few blocks from a scene of a mass shooting that occurred in 2022, said police.

According to police officials, the shooting broke out shortly after 11 p.m. in Buffalo’s East Side neighborhood. A vast crowd of “several hundred” teenagers was congregating for a party when the violence broke out.

As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and Buffalo police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.

The police are looking into the possibility of multiple shooters being involved in the crime. Buffalo’s Chief of Detectives, William Craig Macy, noted that the police had been called to the vicinity prior to the shooting due to noise complaints and reports of teenagers fighting in the area.

Upon reaching the area, officers found a “large chaotic scene,” dispersed the crowd, and removed some teenagers who had trespassed into a nearby senior residential facility, shared Macy. However, the peace did not last long. After the officers left, they received calls about shots being fired at 11:10 p.m. and a shooting report eight minutes later.

The victims were outside a private house on Alexander Place near Jefferson Avenue when the shooting occurred. The 14-year-old girl found critically injured at the scene was rushed to Oishei Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Among the rest, four were shifted to Erie County Medical Center, where one was critically injured. A 16-year-old boy, grazed by gunfire, refused medical treatment at the scene.

Investigators are still establishing a motive. They suspect that an earlier fight at the house party could have triggered the violent outcome. The investigation is ongoing, and witnesses are urged to cooperate.
