Ruidoso, New Mexico – Evacuations have been initiated in Ruidoso as a flash flood emergency was declared by the National Weather Service. The situation has escalated with reports of individuals trapped in their vehicles along Paradise Canyon Road near Cedar Creek. This imminent danger is a result of flooding occurring in the aftermath of the South Fork Fire Burn Scar. Moreover, water rescues are currently in progress near Country Club Drive adjacent to the Rio Ruidoso.

The increasing water levels have prompted urgent action from Rio Ruidoso emergency management, leading to an evacuation notice for the Upper Canyon area due to the unstable soil and life-threatening floodwaters. Residents and tourists are urged to heed the evacuation orders and seek shelter at the White Mountain Relief Center located at the White Mountain Sports Complex. The severity of the flooding has caused disruptions on Meacham Road Bridge, making it impassable, and has left individuals stranded along Paradise Canyon Road.

Additionally, road closures have been implemented in various areas such as Gavilan Canyon, Paradise Canyon, and Hall Road due to hazardous conditions. As the village of Ruidoso continues to tackle the challenges posed by the recent flooding, significant progress has been made in containing the South Fork Fire and Salt Fire, although investigations into the causes of these fires are ongoing.
