Florida mother arrested for allegedly strangling 13-year-old son to death

A Florida mother has been arrested after allegedly confessing to strangling her 13-year-old son, claiming she wanted to protect him from the devil. Jasmin Kennedy, 37, referred to herself as “Yahweh,” meaning “God” in Hebrew, according to court records. The tragic incident occurred at their home in Osceola County, where Kennedy was taken into custody. The mother now faces charges of premeditated first-degree murder, domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect.

The incident took place at their family home in Osceola County. Kennedy shared the home with her mother, her mother’s boyfriend, and her two sons, aged 5 and 13. Shockingly, the younger child witnessed the deadly attack as he slept on the top bunk above his brother. He immediately sought help, but unfortunately, it was too late to save his older sibling.

Paramedics arrived at the residence on Crosley Avenue and found the 13-year-old lying lifeless on his bed. Despite their efforts, he could not be revived. As a result, Kennedy now faces charges of premeditated first-degree murder, domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect.

During her interview with detectives, Kennedy stated that she believed she was being questioned because she had sent her son home. When asked to clarify, she explained that she had strangled him to spare him from the devil. Detectives also noted that Kennedy referred to herself as a deity.

Local authorities expressed their condolences, emphasizing the impact of such a senseless act, particularly when children are involved. The investigation into this heartbreaking case continues as the community grapples with the young 13-year-old child.
